Fill an exam form twice and which one counts? This November, the answer depends on which exam you are applying for, and sometimes on which page of the rules you read. For JEE (Main) 2027 Session 1, an NTA public notice dated October 30 allows a fresh form and says only the last form with the fee paid and the confirmation page generated will count. For the Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2026, the NTA Information Bulletin says a candidate can fill only one application, and that if multiple forms are submitted for the same subject, only the first one will be considered and the others rejected automatically. A later clause in the same bulletin adds that where a duplicate was submitted in good faith, for instance because the first form was incomplete or the first payment seemed to fail, NTA will retain the form on which the fee was successfully paid, and it asks candidates who have created a duplicate by mistake to contact the helpline at once to have one cancelled.
None of this is unreasonable. Each rule answers a real problem, and NTA has published every clause on its own documents. The trouble is that most students in Jammu do not read those documents. They read a forwarded screenshot, a coaching channel's summary, or a classmate's memory of last year. November is the month when that habit costs the most, because the deadlines are stacked close together.
What November holds
- Joint CSIR-UGC NET, December 2026: regular applications close on November 5 (fee by 11:50 PM). A late window with a ₹500 late fee runs from November 6 to 9, and corrections from November 10 to 12, according to the Information Bulletin. The bulletin itself says the dates in its table are tentative and that applicants will be informed of any change.
- JEE (Main) 2027, Session 1: applications run from October 24 to November 22 (11:50 PM). Late submission with a ₹500 late fee runs from November 23 to 26, and the correction window from November 27 to 29. The exam is on January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28, 2027, per NTA's public notice of October 24.
- RRB Station Master (CEN 08/2026): the last date to apply is November 25, with fee payment by November 27, according to published summaries of the notification. Those summaries also say a candidate may apply to only one Railway Recruitment Board.
- JKSSB Junior Engineer (Civil), Advertisement No. 11 of 2026: applications are listed to open on November 30 and run to December 29, per job-portal summaries we covered last week.
The rule that catches people out
Take the student who notices a mistake after paying. Under the JEE rule, the fix for a serious error is a fresh form: a new application number, every document uploaded again, and the earlier fee neither refunded nor adjusted. NTA's notice also advises candidates who only need to amend some details to wait for the correction window instead. Under the CSIR-UGC NET bulletin, a second form is not a route to a fix at all: the general rule is that the first form stands, the good-faith exception turns on which form was paid for, and the bulletin's own advice is to call the helpline and use the correction window, November 10 to 12.
A student who applies the JEE habit to CSIR NET, or the other way round, can end up with a form that does not say what they think it says. Nothing about this requires luck or connections to avoid. It requires reading two pages of an official notice before paying.
JEE adds one more line worth knowing. Holding two application numbers is not itself treated as unfair means, the notice says, but appearing, or trying to appear, with more than one application number is.
When the official page cannot be reached
The harder case is a recruitment where the issuer's own site is not cooperating. JKSSB's Class-IV (Multi Tasking Staff) and Sanitation Worker advertisement, Notification No. 09 of 2026, covers 2,863 posts. When Kashmir Life reported it on September 1, it gave the last date as November 3, 2026. NavBharat Live, in a report dated October 4, gave a different window: October 14 to November 12. When we tried jkssb.nic.in on November 4 to settle it, the site returned an error, and we could not open a corrigendum. A reader trying to apply this week is left with two dates and no official page to choose between them.
That is not a problem students can solve by being more careful. It is one the board can solve, and the fix is modest: keep the notification and every corrigendum reachable, ideally mirrored on a second official host, and say on the advertisement page itself when a date has moved.
What we would do this month
- Read the issuer's own notice first. For NTA exams that means the Information Bulletin and any public notice on nta.ac.in or the exam's own portal. Use summaries, ours included, to know what to look for, not as the last word.
- Know your exam's second-form rule before you pay. JEE (Main) 2027 Session 1 allows a fresh form and counts the last fully paid one. CSIR-UGC NET allows one application; read both of its clauses on duplicates, and call the NTA helpline if you have made one. Do not carry one exam's rule into the other.
- Use correction windows for corrections. Both NTA notices point candidates there for amendments. Plan to finish the form in the regular window, not in the correction window.
- Do not pay on the last night if you can avoid it. A late window exists for both NTA exams, but it costs ₹500 and leaves no room for a failed payment.
- When dates disagree, save evidence. If an official site is down, keep a screenshot of the error and the date, and check again before the earliest deadline in circulation. Treat the earlier date as the real one until the board says otherwise.
None of this is dramatic. It is the unglamorous part of building a career: a fortnight of forms, each with its own small print. The students who get through November cleanly will not be the ones who heard about the deadlines first. They will be the ones who read the notice.
