School athletes from across India are travelling to Jammu and Kashmir this season: J&K is hosting four disciplines comprising nine events of the 70th National School Games 2026-27, organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).

What is where

  • Kashmir leg, Ganderbal: Wushu and Taekwondo, October 15 to 27, at the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE). Taekwondo, for U-17 boys and girls, began on Thursday, October 22.
  • Jammu leg, Khel Gaon, Nagrota: Fencing and Cricket (U-17 girls), listed for November 15 to December 27.

The report puts attendance at the Taekwondo event at 800 to 1,000 players and officials, and elsewhere refers to facilities for over 1,000 participants; the two figures differ slightly. It does not list the nine events individually, and the November 15 to December 27 span is stated as one window, so exact fixture dates for fencing and cricket have not been given.

What it means for young Jammu

Khel Gaon in Nagrota has been the base for the city's fencing scene, and a national event on home ground is a rare chance to watch top school-level competition without travelling. Earlier this month we covered 325 fencers competing at Khel Gaon. Watch the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports for the day-by-day schedule.
