Jammu may soon see smaller electric buses on its narrow roads. According to official sources quoted by Northlines on October 21, Jammu and Srinagar Smart City Limited is in the final stage of procuring about 50 seven-metre electric mini-buses for Jammu, with deployment likely in the first week of November.
What is reported
- These would be the first seven-metre e-buses in J&K, meant for internal roads and densely populated, narrow-street areas.
- Twelve-metre electric buses already run in Jammu.
- The stated aims are better connectivity, less pollution and fewer private-vehicle trips.
- The report also covers Srinagar but gives no figure for it.
What has not been announced
The report names no routes, and gives no cost, fares or funding. It cites "official sources" rather than a published order or tender, and the November date is "likely", not confirmed. For a student or early-career commuter, the question to watch is which neighbourhoods get the service first. We will update when the Smart City body publishes routes.
