Higher reaches of J&K received fresh light snowfall on Saturday, October 24, with Sinthan Top and Peer Ki Gali among the places that saw it. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast generally dry weather across the Union Territory till October 31, Northlines reported.
The outlook
- October 25: light rain is possible in a few districts in the afternoon.
- October 26-31: generally dry, with cloudy weather possible towards the end of the month.
- November 1-5: generally cloudy, with isolated light rain in the plains and light snowfall in higher reaches.
In Jammu
Jammu city recorded the highest maximum temperature in Jammu division on the day, 29.7 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 15.5 degrees Celsius. The department advised farmers to continue harvesting and other agricultural operations.
What it means if you are travelling
A dry week is good news for students and families making trips before Diwali, but the snow on Peer Ki Gali is a reminder that the high passes are already seeing winter conditions. If your plans involve the heights, check road advisories on the day. The next window of cloud, from November 1, is also when light snow is forecast on higher reaches.
