What is re-KYC? It is the periodic refresh of the identity and address details your bank holds for you. RBI Jammu has now put it at the centre of a campaign that runs from October 21 to December 31, 2026, and the message to account holders, including students and first-time earners, is to get it done at the nearest branch.

What was launched, and where?

The Financial Inclusion Saturation Campaign was launched on October 23 at Gurha Singhu in Shamachak, Jammu, by Prabhakar Jha, Regional Director of RBI Jammu. The venue was chosen, the report says, because Gurha Singhu draws large crowds during the Baba Jitto Jhiri Mela. It was organised by J&K Bank with the UT Level Bankers' Committee (UTLBC) J&K, the bank's Financial Inclusion Team and the Lead District Manager's office, Jammu. The J&K Grameen Bank chairman and the State Bank of India's lead bank officer for Jammu district were also present.

It is a nationwide drive carried out under directions from the Department of Financial Services (Ministry of Finance) and the RBI.

What does it cover?

  • Re-KYC and Central KYC (C-KYC) for bank accounts;
  • Promoting nomination facilities on accounts;
  • Better access to social security schemes;
  • Awareness about digital fraud.

What should you do?

Visit your nearest bank branch or a Business Correspondent during the campaign period and carry updated address proof and identity proof. Mr Jha said completing re-KYC keeps banking services uninterrupted and accounts operating smoothly. The report does not list a penalty for missing the window, so check your own bank's rules if you are unsure.

Why a young account holder should care

Many students open accounts at 18 and then move cities for college or a first job, so the address on file goes stale. A refreshed record and a named nominee also make it easier to claim money later; see our guide to unclaimed deposits in J&K banks. The fraud-awareness strand is worth attending too, since digital scams are aimed squarely at young users.
