The story so far
The UGC-NET June 2026 session did not go cleanly. Question-paper errors in three subjects — English, Commerce and Sociology — forced the National Testing Agency to cancel those papers and schedule a re-examination on 9 and 10 September, leaving several thousand candidates across J&K in limbo while everyone else waited on a result date that kept not arriving. In between, NTA released the provisional answer key for the unaffected subjects on 16 August, with a challenge window that closed on 18 August.
What's new
NTA has now said the results for the 84 unaffected subjects will be announced this week. Several outlets tracking the agency put the likely date around 29 August, though NTA itself has committed only to "this week". Final answer keys for CSIR-NET and ICAR-AIEEA are expected in the same run.
The result will appear at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. You will need your application number and date of birth. The scorecard shows your subject-wise and total scores and, critically, which of the three qualifying bands you fall into: JRF plus eligibility for Assistant Professor and PhD admission, eligibility for Assistant Professor and PhD admission, or eligibility for PhD admission only.
Nothing here changes anything for English, Commerce and Sociology candidates. Those three papers still run on 9 and 10 September, and their results follow separately afterwards.
What to do about it
If you sat one of the 84 subjects, have your application number ready and check on the official site rather than on a forwarded link — result week is peak season for fake scorecard pages.
Then look past the pass mark to the band. A JRF changes your options materially: it funds a PhD, and it is the difference between doing research on a stipend and doing it while teaching to pay rent. Assistant Professor eligibility is what the University of Jammu, Cluster University of Jammu, Central University of Jammu and the government degree colleges ask for in their teaching advertisements — and there are live advertisements in Jammu right now, including Cluster University's current round for Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors.
If you missed this cycle entirely, the state-level route runs on its own calendar. JKSET remains the J&K-specific eligibility test for Assistant Professor posts in the UT, and it is worth keeping both tracks open rather than betting a year on one.
