If you applied for sports-category weightage towards a medical seat in J&K this year, everything now rests on four hours on Monday morning. Fail to appear for the physical verification test on 11 August and, in the words of the notification itself, your sports category weightage "shall not be recommended to the concerned institutions." Not deferred. Not rescheduled. Gone.
The J&K Sports Council issued the list on 7 August, under notification No. SC/491-NEET-UG/2026/4530-45. It is the document that decides whose athletic record counts towards admission to NEET-UG medical courses through the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations.
The numbers
Of 151 applications received, 149 candidates have been found eligible and two were found ineligible. But the headline number hides a condition: of those 149, the eligibility of 51 candidates is provisional, subject to three things — verification of the certificate from the relevant sports federation, association or Youth Services and Sports; submission of the original certificate; and verification of the National Sports Federation's recognition status with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
That last condition is the one that quietly disqualifies people. A medal from a body that is not a recognised NSF does not carry weight, however real the competition felt. If you are among the 51, the certificate you bring on Monday matters as much as the performance behind it.
The applications came in against notifications dated 15 June, with the window extended to 9 July, and were scrutinised by the committee on 4 and 6 August.

Carry: proper identification proof, and your original certificates
The purpose of the exercise is to ascertain proficiency in the game or sport the candidate opted for — so this is a practical check, not a paperwork queue. Divisional Sports Officers are supposed to phone eligible candidates on their registered mobile numbers, but treat that as a courtesy rather than a system. The notification is the official record, and it does not make the call a precondition for the test. Do not wait to be rung.
How the points actually work
This is the part nobody explains, and it is worth knowing whether or not you applied this year. Weightage is awarded on a fixed scale, visible in the marks column against every candidate on the list:
6 points — a gold medal at a National
4.5 points — participation in a National plus a silver medal
3.5 points — participation in a National plus a bronze medal
1.5 points — participation in a National plus a silver in a team event
1 point — twice participation in a National
The gap between the top and bottom of that scale is six-fold, and it is almost entirely about individual medals. A team silver is worth a quarter of an individual gold. Two national appearances without a podium finish earn a single point. For a student weighing whether to keep training through Class 11 and 12, that structure is the honest answer to what it takes to move the needle.
Which sports are on the list?
Here is the genuinely surprising bit. Scanning the disciplines of the candidates who cleared, the sports carrying weightage are mostly not the ones Jammu's playgrounds are full of. The list includes squash, pencak silat, tennis-ball cricket, softball, roller skating, roller-skating hockey, fencing and shooting, among others.
There is a lesson in that for anyone in Class 9 or 10 reading this. The route to a national appearance — and therefore to points — runs through sports with shallower national fields, not through the most popular ones. Jammu already has the infrastructure for several of them; the district's shooting ecosystem at Gandhi Nagar, for instance, has been producing national-level competitors, and it appears on this list.

Objections and grievances — whether about eligibility itself or about the points allotted and the committee's observations on your achievements — must reach the Council on or before 11 August 2026, during office hours, in both hard and soft copy.

The notification is blunt about what happens next: anything received after the prescribed date "shall not be entertained," and the decision of the committee is final. There is no appeal built into this process, which makes the objection window the only lever you have.
What happens after Monday
The Divisional Sports Officers conducting the test have to furnish their report through the screening committee by 14 August 2026. The notification was also copied to the Secretary, J&K BOPEE, which is the body that folds the weightage into the actual admission process. So the sequence is: verification on 11 August, reports by 14 August, and then the numbers travel to BOPEE.
