518. That is how many fresh government vacancies the Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) put on the table on August 4, through Advertisement Notification No. 08 of 2026 — and more than four in five of them are in the health system. For J&K's paramedical graduates, pharmacy diploma-holders and nursing students, this is one of the largest single openings of the year.

Where the 518 posts sit

  • Health & Medical Education Department — 421 posts (the bulk of the drive)

  • Higher Education Department — 48 posts

  • Agriculture Production Department — 46 posts

  • Labour & Employment Department — 3 posts

The health roles span the ground-level jobs that actually run a hospital and a health block: Junior Pharmacist, Junior Staff Nurse, Junior Laboratory Assistant, Junior Lab Technician, Junior Theatre Technician, Junior Ophthalmic Technician, Health Educator, Sanitary Inspector, FMPHW and MMPHW (the multipurpose health workers), Para Medical Assistant and more. The Agriculture list includes posts such as Horticulture Technician Grade-IV.

Am I eligible?

Two gates matter before you look at anything else:

  • Domicile: the posts are open to domiciles of the Union Territory of J&K, with a valid domicile certificate issued before the cut-off.

  • Age (as on 01 January 2026): maximum 40 years for Open Merit, 43 for reserved categories (SC/ST/RBA/OBC/EWS/ALC-IB), and 42 for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. The usual lower age floor applies.

Post-specific qualifications — the relevant diploma, ITI certificate, registration or degree — must be held on or before 09 October 2026. Do not apply for a post whose qualification you will only earn after that date; read the notification's eligibility table for the exact requirement against each role.

Key dates and fee

  • Online applications open: 10 September 2026

  • Last date to apply: 09 October 2026

  • Application fee: ₹600 (General) / ₹500 (SC/ST/EWS/PwBD)

How to apply, step by step

  1. Wait for the application window to open on 10 September and go to the official portal, jkssb.nic.in — apply only there, never through a third-party link.

  2. Register with a working mobile number and email; both carry your one-time credentials and every future update.

  3. Fill the form carefully — category, domicile, date of birth and qualification decide your eligibility and cannot be casually corrected later.

  4. Upload your photo, signature and documents in the exact format specified, and pay the fee online.

  5. Download the final submitted form and keep a copy. Note your registration number.

How this fits the bigger hiring wave

This is the latest in a busy JKSSB calendar. The Board has already advertised Warder, PWD (R&B) and PM's Package posts earlier this season, and separately locked in a written-exam calendar whose first papers begin on September 6. If you are preparing for an earlier JKSSB advert, factor both timelines into your study plan — application windows and exam dates are now stacking up close together.

One habit worth keeping: read the official notification PDF end to end before you pay. Vacancy splits, reservation rosters and post-wise eligibility live in the fine print, and they are what actually decide whether your application stands.
