The story so far
Our earlier piece, Dry Weather Till November 9 in J&K, covered the dry spell. The forecast has now moved.
What's new
The Meteorological Department said on Saturday, 7 November, that a Western Disturbance should bring a fresh spell of rain and snow from 12 November.
- 8-9 November: generally dry in Jammu Province.
- 10-11 November: cloudy; light rain at scattered places in the plains, with light snowfall on higher reaches towards the evening or night of 10 November.
- 12-13 November: the system intensifies, with light to moderate rain across Jammu's plains and light to moderate snow on higher reaches at many places, especially the evening and night of 12 November.
- Thunder and gusty winds are possible at a few places between 10 and 12 November.
A separate private forecast the report cites suggests a second disturbance could affect J&K between 12 and 14 November, with moderate to heavy snow on higher reaches.
What it means for you
- Travellers and transporters have been advised to plan journeys: fresh snow on higher reaches can disrupt traffic on mountain passes and hill roads. If you are heading to Patnitop or the Valley around 12-13 November, check road advisories first.
- Farmers have been advised to finish harvesting by 10 November and store crops safely.
- For college-goers: it was 29.5 degrees at the day's high and 14 degrees at the low in Jammu city on Friday, so expect the first real chill after the spell.
