The story so far
At the start of August, the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission opened 205 posts across government degree colleges — Assistant Professors for the Higher Education Department, College Librarians, and College Directors of Physical Education and Sports. It is the largest single academic-career opening in J&K this year, and applications were originally to close on 31 August 2026.
What's changed
That date has moved. JKPSC has extended the last date for online applications to 14 September 2026, in a notice dated 28 August under reference PSC/DR-HE/GCET/2026/03. The extension covers all three related notifications — 05-PSC (DR-P), 06-PSC (DR-P) and 07-PSC (DR-P) of 2026 — which together take in the Assistant Professor posts, the GCET Librarian backlog vacancies, and the College Director of Physical Education and Sports positions.
If you had written this one off last week, you have another eleven days.
The trap in the small print
Here is the part that will catch people, and it is worth reading twice.
The application deadline moved. The eligibility cut-off date did not.
Eligibility is still reckoned as on 31 August 2026. So the extension buys you time to fill the form — it does not buy you time to become eligible. A qualification completed, a NET result declared, or an experience threshold crossed in the first two weeks of September does not count. If you did not meet the conditions on 31 August, the extra fortnight does not change your position, and applying anyway is a fee and a rejection rather than a chance.
This distinction between a closing date and a crucial date is standard in commission recruitment and it is misread constantly. Check yours against 31 August, not against the day you submit.
What you should do now
Confirm your eligibility as on 31 August 2026 — qualification, and any prescribed experience.
Apply by 14 September through the JKPSC online portal, and do not leave it to the final evening; commission portals are slowest at the close.
Keep your documents consistent with what you enter. Name spelling, category certificate and qualification dates are what get flagged at scrutiny.
Check the notification that applies to your post. The three notifications carry different eligibility conditions, and the extension applying to all three does not make their requirements identical.
A correction window was reported for 1 to 3 September. If you have already applied and spotted an error, treat that as closed and check the portal for what is still editable rather than assuming it can be fixed later.
The subject-wise breakdown of the 205 posts and the fee structure sit in the individual notifications on the JKPSC portal. Read the one for your discipline before you pay — that document, not any summary including this one, is the authority on what your post requires.
