If you did not land a seat in University of Jammu's regular counselling — or you want to move into a course that has fallen vacant — the door has quietly reopened. With the main rounds done, the university has moved to on-spot and mop-up admissions, filling leftover seats across undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes on a first-come-first-serve basis. This is the stage that fills the gaps, and it moves fast.
What "on-spot" actually means
On-spot admission is exactly what it sounds like: eligible candidates turn up, and vacant seats are allotted in order of arrival and merit rather than through a fresh online counselling round. University of Jammu's notice for on-spot UG and PG admissions (Notification 15, dated 27 July 2026) is explicit that it covers vacant seats only, including self-financed courses, on a first-come-first-serve basis. A provisional vacant-seat matrix — a list of which programme has how many seats left — was published alongside it (as on 29 July 2026).
Because seats are allotted as people show up, the practical rule is simple: the earlier you get there with your papers in order, the better your odds.
The rounds running right now
Several parallel rounds are live, so check which one matches your course:
On-spot UG & PG (vacant seats, incl. self-financed) — first-come-first-serve, per Notification 15.
LL.B (3-year) and LL.M — on-spot admission for vacant seats (Notification 16, dated 30 July 2026).
BA.LLB (5-year) — a 3rd round of seat allocation (Notification 45, dated 4 August 2026).
Poonch Campus — a special mop-up round for 2026-27 (Notification 44, dated 31 July 2026).
Before you go — get these right
Confirm the specifics first. Each round has its own reporting venue, date and time, and the exact vacant-seat count changes as seats fill. Read the relevant PDF on the university's Admissions 2026-27 page, or call the Chief Coordinator/COE office, before you travel.
Carry originals plus copies: mark sheets, provisional/degree certificates, date-of-birth proof, category and domicile certificates, entrance scorecard where applicable, and passport photos.
Carry the fee in the accepted mode so you can confirm the seat on the spot — an allotted seat is only yours once you pay and report.
Have a backup preference. Your first-choice course may already be full; know which of the vacant programmes you would accept before you are standing at the counter.
Why this round is worth the trip
Every year, seats sit empty after the main counselling — students accept other offers, shift cities, or never report. On-spot rounds are how those seats find takers, and they routinely include courses that looked out of reach a month earlier. For a Jammu student who narrowly missed out, this is a genuine second bite, not a formality. It is also the stage where hesitation costs the most: the vacant-seat matrix that looks comfortable in the morning can be gone by afternoon.
