Marathon 4.0 Runs the Parmandal Circuit on October 4 — and There Is a 3 km Category

FICCI FLO’s Marathon 4.0 has a 21K down to a 3K, funds a women’s skilling centre — and the entry details you still need to chase.

There is a 3-kilometre category. Start there, because it is the detail that decides whether this is a story about athletes or a story about you.

FICCI FLO's Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh chapter runs Marathon 4.0 on Saturday 4 October, and it has four distances — a 21 km half marathon, a 10 km, a 5 km and a 3 km. More than 600 runners had registered when the chapter announced the event. The money raised goes towards setting up what the organisers describe as Jammu's first exclusive Women's Skilling Centre.

The basics, in one place

  • Date: Saturday 4 October 2026
  • Distances: 21 km (half marathon), 10 km, 5 km, 3 km
  • Route: starts and finishes at Four A Resort, on a Four A Resort–Parmandal–Four A Resort circuit
  • Organiser: FICCI FLO Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh, in collaboration with Jammu Tourism
  • Registered so far: 600-plus
  • Cause: proceeds towards a Women's Skilling Centre in Jammu

What we could not confirm — read this before you plan around it

Three things had not been published at the time of writing, and we are not going to invent them: the entry fee, the registration link, and the date entries close. The announcement covered the route, the categories and the cause, but not the mechanics of signing up.

If you intend to run, treat that as the one thing to chase this week rather than next. FICCI FLO JKL's own channels are the place it will appear first. Do not assume entries stay open until the day before — a 600-strong field on an announced circuit usually means a cut-off exists somewhere.

Why the 3 km matters more than the 21

Most marathon coverage leads on the half. It is the wrong end of the field to look at if you have never raced.

A 3 km is roughly the distance from Gandhi Nagar to the Tawi bridge. It is finishable, on twelve days' notice, by somebody who currently does no structured running at all — which is the entire point of putting it on the card. The 5 km is the next honest step up. Between them, those two categories are what turn a charity race into something a college student can actually enter rather than spectate.

If you are eyeing the 3 km or 5 km from a standing start, the sensible version of the next twelve days is unglamorous: three or four easy runs a week, none of them hard, a longer one at the weekend, and nothing new on race morning — not the shoes, not the breakfast, not the playlist. The mistake first-timers make is not undertraining. It is going out at the pace of the people around them in the first 400 metres.

The cause, and why it is not just a line in a press release

The stated purpose is a Women's Skilling Centre — described by the organisers as the first exclusive facility of its kind in Jammu. FICCI FLO JKL's chairperson Varsha Bansal put it this way: "Marathon 4.0 is a marathon with a heart. It is not just about running; it is about creating opportunities for women to learn, become skilled and build sustainable livelihoods."

That sits on top of work the chapter has already been doing on campuses here. We wrote in July about the run of MoUs FICCI FLO signed with Jammu colleges — Cluster University, GCW Parade, Udhampur — putting mentorship and entrepreneurship support in front of young women. A physical skilling centre is the logical next object in that sequence: somewhere for the training to actually happen.

What has not been published is where the centre will be, what trades it will teach, when it opens, or how someone applies to it. Those are fair questions to ask the organisers on the day.

The route, and what running it is actually like

The circuit runs from Four A Resort out towards Parmandal and back. Parmandal sits in Samba district, roughly 40 km from Jammu city, and it is having a year — ₹7.15 crore of heritage restoration work was given its foundation stone there on 20 September, alongside ₹6.85 crore at nearby Uttervehini.

Practically, an out-and-back circuit means you see the leaders come past you on their return leg, which first-timers either love or find demoralising. It also means the turnaround point is the psychological middle of the race, not the physical one.

The organisers have said there will be multiple hydration points, medical and safety cover, and route management across the course. In early October, Jammu mornings are pleasant and the middle of the day is not; where your start time falls in that window is worth knowing before you decide what to wear.

If you would rather run something bigger

Marathon 4.0 is not the only race on the regional calendar this month. The Kashmir Marathon, which we covered in September, carries a ₹3.21-crore prize pool including a category only J&K runners can enter — entries for that one close on 25 September, which is considerably sooner than this.

The two are different propositions. One is a prize-money road race. The other is a local charity event with a 3 km category and a stated plan to build something in Jammu with the proceeds. If it is your first race, the second is the easier door.
