What changed
The J&K Board of School Education has dropped the rule that a candidate must have scored at least 20% in a subject to apply for re-evaluation of the answer script. A notification signed by Director Academics Dr Parveen Singh, issued on Wednesday, October 21, says candidates may now apply "regardless of the marks obtained in the concerned subject", as reported by JKNS.
What the old rule was
A notification dated May 29, 2006 limited re-evaluation to subjects where the candidate had secured 20% or more of the total marks. The new order partially modifies it. The Board says all other re-evaluation terms, as notified from time to time, are unchanged, and the change has prospective effect.
Who is covered
- Secondary School Examination (Class 10)
- Higher Secondary Part I (Class 11) and Part II (Class 12)
- Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.)
- J&K State Open School examinations for Classes 10 and 12
What is not stated
The report says applications remain subject to the prescribed procedure, timeline and fee, but it does not give the fee, the deadline or the steps. Check the JKBOSE website before applying. For how re-checks and re-evaluation have worked in practice, see our earlier guide: Results, Re-checks and Round Two. This week's other Board change, on private and bi-annual qualifiers, is here: JKBOSE lets private or bi-annual qualifiers join the next annual class.
Why it matters
A student who scored very low in one paper, for example after a missed question or an unmarked page, previously had no route to a re-check. That route now exists in principle. Whether it changes outcomes will depend on the fee and the timeline, which the Board has not yet published in the reports we found.
