The annual Jhiri Mela, the farmers' fair held at the Baba Jitto shrine at Jhiri, near Marh, is one of Jammu's biggest seasonal outings. This year's preparations began on Friday, October 16, with an on-site review.

What the Deputy Commissioner asked for

Deputy Commissioner Jammu Minga Sherpa inspected the shrine and the open spaces around it, then chaired a meeting with local representatives, Kashmir Thunder reported. He directed officers to:

  • identify enough parking space;
  • install temporary toilets and CCTV cameras;
  • clear bushes, provide proper lighting and barricade designated areas;
  • put sanitation and waste-disposal arrangements in place;
  • set up awareness stalls on government schemes.

The meeting also reviewed the roles of the Jal Shakti, Power Development and Irrigation departments. MLA Marh Surinder Kumar, SDM Marh Mukhter Ahmed, CMO Dr Narinder Bhutyal and SP Rural Ravinder Singh were among those present.

What has not been announced

The report gives no mela dates, and no official schedule or bus plan had been found when this was written. JammuBeat's events listing carries the main day as Kartik Purnima; confirm the programme with the district administration before travelling. Last year's fair was covered in Jhiri Mela 2025: More Than Just a Fair.
