If you passed Class 12 this year and still don't have a college seat, this is your week to act. Admissions to Jammu & Kashmir's government degree colleges for 2026-27 are running through the Centralised Admission Portal (jkadmissions.in), and the process has now reached its final spot rounds and walk-in phase — the last realistic window to grab a seat before classes settle in.
Here's the part that catches students out every year: for J&K's government degree colleges, there is no CUET and no entrance test. Admission is purely merit-based on your Class 12 marks. You register once, list your preferred colleges and subjects, and the portal allots seats round by round based on merit and the choices you filled.
The dates that matter this week
The portal is now cycling through its closing rounds, so the calendar is tight:
Preference / choice-filling window: July 22-23. If you're already registered and waiting for a better seat, log in and lock your college and subject preferences in this window — skipping it means skipping the round.
Seat allotment: around July 24. Check your login for the allocation, then complete fee payment and document verification in the short window that follows.
Walk-in admissions: until July 25. Colleges with seats still vacant after the online rounds hold walk-in (spot) admissions for listed programmes — you turn up, pay the fee, and get your documents verified on the spot.
Still not registered? You have until July 25. The merit-based UG registration window stays open till the night of July 25 (a small, non-refundable application fee applies), so first-time applicants can still get into the queue.
What to keep ready
Whether you're filling preferences online or walking in, keep your Class 12 marksheet, date-of-birth proof, domicile/category certificates, and passport photos ready in both soft and hard copy. Fee payment is online, so have a working UPI method or card handy. Double-check the spelling of your name and your marks on the portal against your marksheet — mismatches are the single most common reason a verification gets held up.
How to play it smart
Fill more preferences, not fewer. Students who list only one or two dream colleges often end up unallotted when those fill on merit; a longer, honestly-ranked list of colleges and subjects you'd actually accept gives the algorithm room to place you. If you're allotted a seat you're reasonably happy with, secure it — you can usually still move up in an upgradation round, but an unclaimed seat is a seat lost.
And don't rely on WhatsApp forwards for dates. Round schedules can shift by a day, and the only source that's always current is the portal itself and your chosen college's notice board. Log in daily this week.
