If you play, train or coach in Jammu, a review meeting of the J&K Sports Council on Thursday, 5 November, is worth a read for one reason: it lists the facilities under way and their dates.
In Jammu: the status board
- Bandhu Rakh synthetic turf: about 65% complete, scheduled for December 2026.
- Cricket academy: civil works allotted; completion targeted for January 2027. The same review lists academies at Srinagar, Anantnag and Udhampur.
- K.K. Hakku Stadium: Khelo India synthetic hockey turf completed.
- M.A. Stadium: an artificial rock-climbing wall is ready for inauguration, along with football turfs.
The wider numbers
The 2026-27 capital programme includes 264 works with an approved outlay of Rs 128.87 crore, of which Rs 96.07 crore has been released. The annual target is 120 works. High-performance Taekwondo training centres across J&K have had their equipment purchases completed, and grants-in-aid to recognised sports associations for championships, coaching camps and national participation were also reviewed.
What to watch
"Ready for inauguration" is not the same as open to the public. The report does not say who will manage bookings or whether the facilities will be free for school and college athletes. Dates such as December and January are targets set at the review, not commitments from a contractor.
The meeting was chaired by Sports Minister Mir Saifullah in Srinagar; we have left the ceremonial detail out and kept the project list.
