When Jammu's waste-to-art park opened on the Tawi's right bank at Bhagwati Nagar on 6 August, the open question was whether a set of monument replicas welded out of scrap would hold the city's attention past the first fortnight. Three weeks of numbers are now in, and they answer it.
The story so far
Tawi Wonderland opened on 6 August 2026, inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on about 40 kanals of what was for years a riverside garbage dump. It cost roughly ₹11 crore, built by Jammu Smart City Limited with Z-Tech India Ltd, which operates it for ten years on a 50-50 revenue share.
Inside are 14 monument replicas made from automobile scrap, tyres and discarded metal — the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Colosseum and Hawa Mahal among them, plus two closer to home, the Chenab Railway Bridge and Akhnoor Fort. There is an artificial water body with boating, food kiosks running Dogra dishes, children's zones and an open-air theatre.
What's new
The turnout. By 26 August — twenty days after opening — the park had drawn close to 47,000 visitors and about ₹34 lakh in entry-ticket revenue. On 26 August alone roughly 12,000 tickets were issued. For a city where the standing complaint is that there is nowhere to go, those are not soft numbers.
The programming. On 30 August, JSCL staged Euphoria — An Evening to Celebrate Culture at the park: a three-hour programme that opened with a Ganesh Vandana and ran through Dogri and Punjabi singers and traditional Dogri, Kashmiri and Punjabi dance, to a large turnout of families and young people. JMC Commissioner and JSCL CEO Dr Devansh Yadav described the park as a vibrant public space for cultural, social and community activities that promotes local artists and regional heritage. DIG Jammu Shridhar Patil framed it as letting people enjoy cultural programmes in a safe public space.
That is the more interesting development of the two. A park is a place; a programmed venue is a habit. Jammu has acquired an open-air stage on the river that the city itself is booking — and one that put Dogri performers in front of a large young audience.
What still hasn't been announced
The same gap we flagged at opening is still open: no official ticket price or opening hours have been published in any source we could reach, even though entry is ticketed and parking is paid. Nor has JSCL said whether Euphoria was a one-off or the start of a series — so treat it as a single event until the corporation says otherwise, and do not plan a weekend around a repeat that has not been announced.
If you are going
It is on the right bank of the Tawi at Bhagwati Nagar, which makes it one of the few genuine outings in this city that involves no highway and no day trip. Twelve thousand tickets in a single day is also a warning: go on a weekday evening if you want to actually see the replicas rather than the backs of people photographing them. And if you are making a day of it, the Mubarak Mandi heritage trail sits across the river.
