The story so far
Phase-I of undergraduate admissions to J&K's Government Degree Colleges closed earlier this month with 47,150 admissions — a 16 per cent jump on last year. When we covered that round, Phase-II existed as a promise: a second window for students who had missed the first, or who were still waiting on a bi-annual or supplementary result.
It now has dates.
What's new
The Higher Education Department notified Phase-II on 29 August. Online registration opens on 1 September and the process concludes on 10 September, after which no further admissions will be permitted. That is a ten-day window, and the department has said plainly that it is the last one.
Applications go through the centralised portal, jkadmissions.in. Vacant seats are then filled through in-person counselling and walk-in admissions — so registering online is the first step, not the whole thing.
Who can apply
- Candidates who qualified the 2026 Class 12 bi-annual, supplementary or private examinations conducted by JKBOSE or another recognised board.
- Candidates who registered in Phase-I but did not secure admission.
- Candidates who were allotted a seat but could not complete the admission formalities.
- Candidates whose applications were rejected during verification.
Who cannot
- Anyone who confirmed an admission in Phase-I.
- Anyone who cancelled a confirmed admission.
All eligibility remains subject to the prescribed criteria for the course and college you are applying to.
What to do this week
If you cleared a bi-annual or supplementary paper in 2026, your marksheet and provisional certificate are the documents that will hold you up — chase them now rather than on 9 September. If you were rejected at verification in Phase-I, find out why before you re-register, because the same defect will get you rejected again.
And because the last step is physical counselling rather than an online allotment, factor in the travel. A ten-day window that ends in a walk-in is not one to leave to the final forty-eight hours.
The department has asked candidates to keep checking the JK Admissions Portal and its official WhatsApp channel for updates, notices and schedules — both are linked from the portal.
One thing worth being realistic about
Phase-II runs on vacant seats — what is left after 47,150 admissions were confirmed in the first round. The most sought-after courses at the most sought-after colleges are, in the main, gone. That is not a reason to skip the window; it is a reason to go into it with a wider list than you would have submitted in July, and to treat a seat at a less obvious college as a real option rather than a fallback. A degree started this September is worth considerably more than a year spent waiting for the 2027-28 cycle.
