The government's winter shift from Srinagar to Jammu reaches its first working day on Monday, 2 November, when offices of the Chief Minister, ministers and other departments are set to resume in Jammu, according to a PTI report in The Tribune on 1 November 2026.

The story so far

JammuBeat has tracked the move from the first announcement. See Darbar Move 2026-27: Convoy Dates, Buses and What Has Not Been Announced Yet and the order that fixed 30-31 October as closing days and 2 November as the Jammu reopening.

What's new

  • Closures confirmed: Srinagar offices on a five-day week closed on 30 October; six-day-week offices stopped work after office hours on 31 October.
  • Shorter break: employees used to get about a week's holiday for the shift. Because files are now handled electronically, offices reopen on Monday.
  • No physical files: files were moved to the e-governance system rather than transported.
  • NH-44 curbs: on 31 October and 1 November, no goods carriers could move from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar. After 2 am on both days, goods carriers could not proceed from Jakheni towards Ramban, Banihal or Srinagar, or from Qazigund towards Banihal, Ramban or Udhampur. Heavy vehicles from Qazigund towards Jammu were allowed in a regulated manner, and operators of fresh perishables and livestock were advised to plan around the curbs.
  • Accommodation and repairs: arrangements are being finalised for housing employees who move, and repairs at government buildings, offices and quarters are under way. Security around the Civil Secretariat, Raj Bhawan and employee housing was tightened after a review on 24 October.

What it means for Jammu

The curbs were limited to the weekend, and the report gives no passenger-vehicle guidance. Anyone driving the highway should check traffic advisories rather than assume restrictions have ended. The report does not say how many employees are moving or what rental demand will do; those figures are not available from the source.
