Two points. That was the whole margin between District Jammu and District Ramban in the final of the Inter-District Divisional-Level Kabaddi Tournament for Boys Under-19, which concluded at the Indoor Stadium in Doda on 14 September.
Jammu took the title. Ramban, who had pushed them to the last raids, finished runners-up.
How the three days went
The tournament ran from 12 to 14 September, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, with the district administration at Doda coordinating the event alongside departmental officials and field staff.
Eight districts from across the Jammu division sent teams: Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Doda, Rajouri, Reasi, Poonch and Kishtwar, split across two pools.
The middle day set up the knockouts. In Pool A, Kathua beat Samba by 16 points, and Jammu got past hosts Doda by six. In Pool B, Rajouri edged Reasi by six, while Poonch ran up the day's widest margin, beating Kishtwar by 38.
Set against those numbers, a two-point final is the outlier — the one match where neither side could pull clear.
Why an U-19 divisional title matters
This is not a showcase event. It sits inside the pathway the Department of Youth Services and Sports runs from district trials upward, and organisers were explicit that the results feed selection for higher-level representation.
For a schoolboy in Jammu district, that is the practical point. The route into a divisional squad runs through district-level trials held by the same department, which means the question worth asking — of a school sports teacher or the district youth services office — is when the next cycle of trials opens, not how to get spotted at a final.
Kabaddi is also among the cheapest competitive sports to enter in the region. It needs a marked court, a team and a coach, rather than equipment or club fees, which is a large part of why the district pathway reaches players that other sports never see. For a player in a government school without a sports budget, it is one of the few disciplines where the route to a divisional squad is not gated by what a family can spend.
The geographic spread of the entry list is worth noting too. Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, Reasi, Poonch, Kishtwar and Doda all fielded sides alongside Jammu, which means the divisional squad that emerges from this pathway is drawn from across the division rather than the city alone. Hosting the tournament at Doda rather than in Jammu is part of the same pattern.
