When Jammu students talk about "applying to college", the conversation often defaults to the University of Jammu. But there is a second big player in the city that runs some of its most sought-after institutions: the Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ). If you are mapping out your 2026-27 undergraduate admission, it deserves a spot on your shortlist.
What Cluster University actually is
Established in 2016 under the Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities Act (as part of the RUSA reforms), CLUJ was created to upgrade and knit together existing colleges into a single multi-campus university. Its constituent colleges are names most Jammuites already know:
GGM Science College — the city's flagship for science streams.
MAM PG College — strong in arts and postgraduate courses.
SPMR College of Commerce — the go-to for commerce and B.Com aspirants.
Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar — a leading women's college.
Government College of Education, Canal Road — teacher-training and education degrees.
Between them, these campuses cover science, commerce, arts, women's education and teacher training — a serious chunk of the city's higher-education capacity, and a reason to think about which college fits your subject before you think about the university label.
What to know about admission
Cluster University typically opens its UG admissions around July, with all notifications, schedules, merit lists and counselling details published on the official admissions portal. Postgraduate and integrated programmes are admitted through the university's own entrance test, CLUJET; for 2026-27 the CLUJET application window for PG and integrated courses had already been extended earlier in the year, so the calendars for UG and PG do not always line up. Because exact UG dates can shift, the safe move is to check the official portal directly rather than relying on second-hand dates.
Apply through the official site: clujammu.ac.in/admissions.
Confirm the current UG last date on the portal before you plan anything — treat WhatsApp-forwarded deadlines with suspicion.
Keep documents scanned and ready so you can register the moment the window is confirmed open.
The point is simple: your options in Jammu are wider than one university. Between the University of Jammu's affiliated colleges and Cluster University's five constituent campuses, there is real choice this admission season — provided you do your homework on the official sites and don't let a deadline slip past.
