Round 2 of NEET UG 2026 counselling opens on Wednesday, 3 September. Registration shuts at 3:00 PM on 8 September, and the payment gateway stays open only three hours longer. That is the entire window — six days — for every Jammu aspirant who missed a seat in Round 1, or who holds one and wants to trade up.
The Medical Counselling Committee published the schedule on 27 August. It covers the 15% All India Quota and 100% of seats in deemed and central universities, AFMC, AIIMS and JIPMER, for MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing. The J&K state-quota round runs alongside it on a slightly different clock, which is where people get caught out.
Every date below is from MCC's own published schedule. Times are server time, and MCC does not extend for a slow connection.
3–8 September: registration and payment
Fresh registration and fee payment run from 3 September to 8 September. Registration closes at 3:00 PM on 8 September; the payment facility stays live until 6:00 PM the same day. Those two deadlines are three hours apart and both are hard — a registration that is complete but unpaid is not a registration.
If you were allotted a seat in Round 1 and have joined it, your options in Round 2 depend on the category of seat you hold and whether you exercised free exit or upgrade willingness. Read your Round 1 status on the MCC portal before you pay for anything.
3–9 September: choice filling
Choice filling opens the same day as registration and runs until 10:00 AM on 9 September. Locking is a separate step with its own window: 4:00 PM on 8 September to 10:00 AM on 9 September.
Choices that are filled but never locked are auto-locked at the close, in whatever order you left them. That sounds harmless and is not — a half-ordered list you meant to come back and rearrange becomes the list the software allots against. Order the whole list deliberately, then lock it yourself.
9–10 September: processing, and 11 September: the result
MCC processes seat allotment on 9 and 10 September, and the Round 2 result is declared on 11 September. There is nothing to do in those two days except make sure your documents are ready, because the reporting window opens the day after the result.
12–18 September: reporting and joining
Candidates allotted a seat report to their college between 12 and 18 September. Institutes then verify joined candidates on 19 September. Miss the reporting window and the seat is forfeited — there is no grace period built into the schedule.
For anyone travelling to a college outside J&K, build the journey into that week rather than the last two days of it. September is peak reporting season and the Jammu–Delhi corridor books out.
The state-quota clock is different
Alongside the All India Quota, State Quota Round 2 runs from 3 to 11 September, with state-counselling registration open 7 to 11 September and the last date of joining set at 18 September.
This is the part Jammu aspirants most often get wrong. The state registration window opens four days after the AIQ one and closes three days later — so it is entirely possible to be within the state deadline and to have already missed the All India one. If you intend to keep both routes open, work to the earlier date, not the later one.
What is actually on the table in Jammu
The J&K state quota is the route to GMC Jammu and the region's other government medical colleges, and the seat pool there is bigger than it was. GMC Jammu was cleared this year to raise its MBBS intake from 200 to 250 — fifty additional seats that widen the door for exactly the candidates sitting in this round.
The All India Quota route, meanwhile, is how a Jammu student reaches a college outside the UT, and the deemed-university seats included in this round are the ones worth reading the fee structure on before you rank them. A seat you cannot fund is not a seat.
Before you start
Read your Round 1 status first. What you are allowed to do in Round 2 follows from it.
Register and pay early in the window, not on 8 September.
Lock your choices yourself rather than letting them auto-lock.
Keep documents scanned and to hand — NEET scorecard and admit card, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, ID proof, domicile and category certificates where you are claiming a quota.
Work to the earliest deadline that applies to you, and treat every stated time as server time.
