Cleared NEET UG 2026 and hoping to study medicine or dentistry closer to home? The Jammu & Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) has opened the state-quota counselling process for MBBS and BDS admissions in J&K for 2026-27 — and getting the first steps right matters as much as your rank.
Counselling for J&K and Ladakh candidates began in the second half of July, with the initial online registration window running through July 22. This first step is not the allotment itself; it's how you enter the state's counselling pool. Miss it, and no rank can help you.
How the process works
The counselling runs entirely online on jkbopee.gov.in, and broadly moves through these stages:
Registration & document upload: Create your login and upload your NEET 2026 scorecard, Class 12 marksheet, domicile certificate, and category/reserved-category documents. These feed into the Provisional UT Merit List (PUTML) that ranks J&K candidates for state-quota seats.
Choice-filling: Once the merit list is out, you list your preferred medical and dental colleges in order. As with any counselling, fill a long, honest list rather than just one or two names.
Seat allotment & reporting: Seats are allotted round by round on merit and your choices; if allotted, you pay the fee and report/verify within the given window.
Upgradation: Later rounds let you move up to a more-preferred college if a seat opens, so read each round's rules before you freeze or float.
What to do now
If your documents aren't uploaded yet, treat that as the priority — a clean, correctly-uploaded set is what keeps you in the merit list. Keep checking jkbopee.gov.in for the detailed round schedule, which the board releases in steps rather than all at once. And ignore the coaching-group rumour mill on cut-offs; the only numbers that count are the official ones published against each round.
