If you are a young jobseeker in Jammu, July has been busy. The Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has rolled out a cluster of fresh recruitment notifications, and between them they cover technical trades, security posts and engineering-support roles — with application windows spread across July, August and into September. Miss a date and you wait for the next cycle, so it pays to map the calendar now. For a region where stable, salaried work is still in short supply, a wave of government vacancies landing at once is a genuine opening — and a competitive one, which is exactly why getting the basics right matters.
The posts on the table
Advt 04 of 2026 — ~130 technical posts. This notification covers a spread of trade roles including Electrician, Plumber, Laboratory Assistant, Library Assistant, Computer Assistant and more. The application window closes on July 21, 2026 — the most urgent deadline in this batch, so this is the one to act on first.
Advt 06 of 2026 — 357 Divisional Cadre posts, Public Works (R&B). Dated July 6, this is the big one: 97 Draftsman (Civil) and 260 Works Supervisor vacancies. Applications run August 1 to August 30, 2026 on jkssb.nic.in. Draftsman (Civil) posts sit at Pay Level-4 (approx. ₹25,500–81,100) and require a two-year Draftsman training certificate/diploma; Works Supervisor posts are at SL-2 (approx. ₹15,900–50,400) and need Matriculation plus an ITI certificate in Building Construction or Carpentry. Selection is purely on merit in the written/OMR exam, followed by document verification.
Advt 05 of 2026 — Warder (288 posts). Part of the same recent push, this security-cadre recruitment is one to watch for candidates eyeing uniformed roles in the prisons department.
Advt 07 of 2026 — 72 Divisional Cadre posts under the PM's Package. Reserved under the Prime Minister's Package for Kashmiri Migrants and non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits, this window opens later — applications from August 10 to September 8, 2026.
Read the eligibility before you get excited
Trade and technical posts almost always hinge on a specific qualification — an ITI certificate in the right trade, a diploma, or a particular course — rather than a general degree. A B.A. does not qualify you for a Draftsman post, and matriculation-plus-ITI is a different bracket from a diploma. Before you start an application, open the official notification PDF and check three things against your own certificates: the minimum qualification, the age band (including any relaxation for reserved categories), and the trade or discipline named. If you don't match on all three, your form will be filtered out at verification no matter how well you do in the exam.
The one non-negotiable: domicile
Across these notifications, candidates must be domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and hold a valid domicile certificate in the prescribed format on or before the cut-off date. If your certificate is out of date or in the wrong format, sort it out before you sit down to apply — it is the single most common reason applications get rejected at verification. The same goes for category, EWS and reserved-status certificates: get them issued and scanned in advance.
What about JKAS and the higher services?
Beyond the Selection Board, the J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC) is mid-cycle on its Combined Competitive Examination (the route into the J&K Administrative Service, J&K Police (Gazetted) and J&K Accounts (Gazetted) services). The 2025 notification carried 80 posts — 35 JKAS, 30 JKPS(G) and 15 Accounts(G) — with the mains examination conducted across late June into early July 2026. If the civil services are your goal, keep jkpsc.nic.in bookmarked for the next prelims notification, and start building the habit of daily current-affairs reading now.
How to actually stay on top of it
Apply on the official portal only. Everything genuine goes through jkssb.nic.in (or jkpsc.nic.in for JKPSC). Ignore third-party "application help" sites that charge a fee.
Read the full notification PDF, not a summary. Eligibility, age relaxations and the exam pattern live in the official document — social-media digests get details wrong.
Diarise every date. July 21 (Advt 04), August 1–30 (357 PWD posts), August 10–September 8 (72 PM-Package posts). Set a reminder two days before each closes.
Keep a document folder ready. Domicile, category and qualification certificates, marksheets, a recent photo and signature — scanned and correctly sized — so applying is a 20-minute job, not a scramble.
For Jammu's young jobseekers, this is a rare stretch where several stable government openings are live at once. A permanent posting in the PWD, the prisons department or a technical cadre is a real foothold — treat the calendar as seriously as the syllabus, and don't let a domicile paperwork slip be the thing that ends the run.
