If a government job is on your list, the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has just made this a busy fortnight. Three fresh advertisements are now live back-to-back, together putting hundreds of posts on the table — and the application windows for all of them fall in the next few weeks. Here's a clear, no-jargon rundown of what's open, the vacancy split, and how to apply without tripping up.
1. Warder — 288 posts (Advt No. 05 of 2026)
Notified on 6 July 2026, this is a UT-cadre recruitment for 288 Warder posts. The application window runs from 27 July to 25 August 2026. Key details:
Qualification: Matriculation (Class 10 pass) — making this one of the more accessible openings for younger applicants.
Pay: Level-2 (approximately ₹19,900 – ₹63,200).
Selection: a written exam plus a Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Endurance Test (PET) — so if you're eyeing this, start your fitness prep now, not after the exam date drops.
2. Divisional Cadre, Public Works (R&B) — 357 posts (Advt No. 06 of 2026)
Also notified on 6 July 2026, this one is aimed at candidates with a technical background, and the Jammu-division share is substantial. The window opens 1 August and closes 30 August 2026. The 357 posts break down as:
Draftsman (Civil): 97 posts — 48 in Jammu division, 49 in Kashmir. Pay Level-4 (approx. ₹25,500 – ₹81,100).
Works Supervisor: 260 posts — 194 in Jammu division, 66 in Kashmir. Pay SL-2 (approx. ₹15,900 – ₹50,400).
With nearly 250 of these posts earmarked for Jammu division, this is one of the more Jammu-friendly technical recruitments in a while for diploma and ITI-qualified youngsters.
3. Divisional Cadre posts under the PM's Package — 72 posts (Advt No. 07 of 2026)
Notified on 8 July 2026, this recruitment covers 72 divisional-cadre posts under the Prime Minister's Package for Kashmiri migrants and non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits. Online applications open from 10 August 2026. Eligibility here is specific to the package's beneficiary categories, so read the notification carefully before assuming you qualify.
How to apply — and how not to lose your form to a silly error
All three are applied for online through the official JKSSB portal, jkssb.nic.in. A few things worth doing right:
Complete your one-time registration first. JKSSB uses a common applicant profile; get it done and verified before the rush.
Match your documents. Your name, date of birth and category must read identically across your Class 10 certificate, category/domicile documents and application — mismatches are a leading cause of rejection.
Pay the fee and save the receipt. Keep the payment confirmation and a PDF of the submitted form.
Note the reference dates. Eligibility (age, qualification) is usually reckoned as on a cut-off date given in each notification — check it against your own dates.
Don't wait for the last day. Portals slow to a crawl in the final 48 hours; submit early.
Start preparing while the window is open
The mistake most first-time applicants make is treating the application as the finish line. It isn't — for JKSSB posts the written exam is typically a computer-based test (CBT) covering general knowledge (with a strong J&K focus), general science, maths and reasoning, and language/comprehension. The detailed syllabus and scheme of examination are published with each notification, so download that PDF and build your prep around it rather than a random online guide. For the Warder posts, remember there is a physical stage as well: begin a simple running and endurance routine now, because the PST/PET can filter out written-exam qualifiers who left fitness to the last minute. Past JKSSB papers and mock CBTs are the cheapest, most effective practice you can do — time yourself, because CBTs reward speed as much as knowledge.
Which one is for you?
If you're a Class 10 pass and reasonably fit, the Warder posts are the widest door. If you hold a civil-engineering diploma or draughtsmanship qualification, the PWD (R&B) recruitment — with its big Jammu-division share — is the natural target. And if you're covered under the PM's Package, the third advertisement is yours to act on from 10 August. There is no harm in applying for more than one if you're eligible; each is a separate form and fee, and more attempts simply means more chances.
One more thing to plan for: age limits, fee concessions and reservation benefits apply as per the rules in force, and each category has its own eligibility band — so confirm which reserved category, if any, you fall under, and keep the supporting certificates ready in advance rather than scrambling at verification. After the window closes, the next milestones are the admit card and the CBT date, both of which JKSSB announces only on its portal; there is no SMS-only shortcut, so keep checking the site and your registered email.
Whatever you choose, treat the official notification PDF as the final word on eligibility, syllabus and dates, and ignore the unofficial "expected vacancy" chatter online. Bookmark jkssb.nic.in, mark the closing dates in your calendar, and get your registration profile ready today.
