16,821 candidates registered for the JKSET/LASET exam held on Sunday, October 25. 13,252 appeared. Of those registered, 8,342 were from Jammu Division, 7,722 from Kashmir Division and 757 from Ladakh.

What was new at the centres

The University of Kashmir's Directorate of Information Technology and Support Systems built a mobile app for identity checks. Exam staff captured each candidate's live photo and the geolocation of the verification site; the app compared the photo with the one submitted at registration and returned “matched” or “unmatched”. More than 700 invigilators and staff took part. The university says the system runs on its own data centre, with encryption protecting candidate data and its transmission.

Where Jammu candidates sat

Jammu Division's five main centres were Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Udhampur and Bhaderwah. The exam was held at 1:30 pm with reporting at noon, after a rescheduling notified on October 21.

What is not stated

  • The report does not say what happens when a photo comes back “unmatched”.
  • No result or answer-key date was given in the sources we found; candidates should watch the University of Kashmir's notices.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, who visited centres in Srinagar, said the university remains committed to a fair, transparent and well-organised examination process.
