JKBOSE has decided to start free distribution of textbooks to all education zones from mid-November 2026, according to an official quoted by Greater Kashmir on November 5. The plan had been to begin in the first week of November; last year, supply began in the last week of November.

Why the delay?

The official said revised-edition textbooks for a few classes had not arrived. JKBOSE revised the syllabus for Classes 1, 2, 3 and 6 this year as per NEP-2020. Textbooks for only two classes are pending, he said, and the delay was linked to supplier activity around Diwali. The rest have been received, but the Board wants to distribute for all classes in one go.

What can parents and students do?

  • Books for other classes are available with booksellers, except Class 3, whose syllabus is revised.
  • Books were printed for government and private schools using UDISE Plus data.
  • Other classes' syllabi are to be revised for the 2027-28 session.

The report does not give a distribution date, and the official is not named. It is a Srinagar-datelined report about the Board, which sets books across J&K. For the related debate on private-school books, see our earlier piece.
