Changing your course or college does not have to mean losing the fee you already paid. The University of Jammu has issued its refund policy for first-semester admissions in 2026-27, and the most useful date is 15 September 2026: cancel by then and the university says it will refund the fee in full.

Who does this policy cover?

The notice applies to students admitted to the first semester of a University of Jammu programme in the 2026-27 academic session. It covers a student who discontinues, withdraws or cancels admission within the university's stated timetable.

If you are leaving because another allotment has come through, compare the dates before giving up your current seat. A written cancellation received on one side of a deadline can change the amount returned.

How much comes back?

  • Cancellation up to 15 September 2026: full refund of fees.

  • Cancellation from 16 to 30 September 2026: refund after a ₹500 processing-fee deduction.

  • Admission schedules starting or extending beyond 30 September: the older UGC refund timetable reproduced in the university notice applies.

Under that later timetable, the refund steps down with time: 100% when a withdrawal reaches the institution at least 15 days before 30 September; 90% when it arrives less than 15 days before; 80% within 15 days after; 50% from 16 to 30 days after; and no refund after more than 30 days. For the first category, processing charges cannot exceed 5% of the fee or ₹500, whichever is lower.

Can the university keep your original certificates?

No. JU's notification says original certificates must be returned with the refund process. That matters when a student has to report quickly to another college: the marksheet, migration certificate or category certificate deposited for verification cannot become a reason to hold the student back.

UGC's student-entitlement guidance also says institutions may inspect original documents for admission but should not retain them. If you are moving to another course, ask for a dated receipt when you submit the withdrawal and record which originals are being returned.

When should the money arrive?

The university says an eligible admission-fee refund should be made within 15 days of receiving the written application. Keep a copy of that application, the admission-fee receipt and the receiving stamp or acknowledgement. If the payment does not arrive within the stated window, those records are what let you follow up with the department or academic-affairs office precisely.

What should you do before cancelling?

  1. Confirm the new seat or course in writing; do not surrender a seat on the strength of a phone call or WhatsApp message.

  2. Calculate which refund window applies on the day JU will actually receive your written request.

  3. Take copies of your admission form, payment receipt and every original certificate deposited.

  4. Submit a short written withdrawal or cancellation application to the concerned department and obtain a dated acknowledgement.

  5. Record the bank details or payment route requested for the refund, then follow up after the 15-day processing window if necessary.

The university says this policy remains in force until the UGC issues a fresh refund policy for 2026-27. That means students should still check the admissions page before acting in case a later notification changes the timetable.
