Jammu Smart City Limited has put six of the city's own problems on the table and invited people to solve them. Registration opened on 17 September and closes on 25 September — a nine-day window, and most of it is already gone.
The hackathon is being run by JSCL with LEAD (J&K Economic Growth and Development Dialogue), and the incubation centres of IIT Jammu and IIM Jammu are partners. An MoU was signed at the launch by LEAD Convenor Harinder Gupta and Dr Devansh Yadav, who is both CEO of JSCL and Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation — which is why some coverage describes this as a JMC initiative and some as a JSCL one. Representatives of MIET Jammu and Central University of Jammu were also at the launch.
The six themes
Entries are invited across six areas:
Urban planning, green spaces and the public realm
Cleanliness, waste management and sustainability
Digital governance, mobility and smart infrastructure
Tourism, heritage and culture
Inclusive communities and animal welfare
Urban resilience and disaster management
Participants go through a structured process — ideation, mentoring, prototyping, evaluation, then presentation. Selected participants are offered incubation support and potential investment backing, and Yadav has said the intention is for solutions to be adopted by JMC and JSCL and implemented on the ground.
Who it is aimed at
The call names startups, innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers and community organisations. That is broad enough to include a final-year engineering student at MIET or IIT Jammu with a working prototype, and specific enough that a polished slide deck with nothing behind it is unlikely to survive the prototyping stage.
The genuinely interesting part is the route it opens rather than the contest itself. The IIT and IIM incubation centres are the doors young founders in Jammu most often cannot get through, and this is a nine-day window in which the city government is actively pointing people at them.
What has not been published
This needs saying clearly, because it is the one thing that would let a reader act today: no registration link or form has been published anywhere we could find. We checked JSCL's pages on the Jammu Municipal Corporation site and the city portal, and searched for an official form; none of the coverage carries one either. Also unannounced: any prize money, the dates and venue of the hackathon itself after registration closes, and the exact eligibility rules — one report suggests participation runs through those already registered with the incubation centres, which the others do not say.
