GDC Udhampur Box, GDC Kathua Shoot, MIET Bend: Three Weeks of Jammu University Inter-Collegiate Sport

Three championships in four days, and the medals went to colleges from one end of the Jammu division to the other. Jammu University's Directorate of Sports and Physical Education has been running its inter-collegiate season back to back this week — and if your college competes, this is where it currently stands.

Archery (Women), 17 September

• Gold — Janvi, GDC Kathua

• Silver — Sonia, PG Department, University of Jammu

Boxing (Men), 17 September

More than twenty-five affiliated colleges entered. GDC Udhampur took the overall title with 13 points, with GDC Chenani runners-up on 10.

The gold medallists, by weight:

• 47-50 kg — Sahil Sharma, GDC Chenani

• 50-55 kg — Sourav Badyal, GDC Ramban

• 55-60 kg — Pushpinder Singh, GDC Chenani

• 60-65 kg — Virvaz, GDC Udhampur

• 65-70 kg — Sushant Kumar, GDC Kishtwar

• 70-75 kg — Aradhya Singh, GDC Udhampur

• 75-80 kg — Manjeet, PG Department, University of Jammu

• 80-85 kg — Mubarak Ali, GDC Poonch

Yoga (Men), 14 September

Held at the Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu. MIET Jammu finished first as a team and took the overall championship, ahead of GDC Ramnagar and the PG Department. Individually, Ajay Kumar of GDC Ramnagar placed first, with Mayank Sharma and Kushant — both MIET — second and third.

The Inter-Collegiate Kho-Kho (Men) Tournament 2026-27 has commenced at the university's Kho-Kho court, and fencing events have also been held.

Read together with GDC Kathua's inter-collegiate kabaddi title earlier this month, a pattern is visible: the district colleges — Kathua, Udhampur, Chenani, Ramban, Ramnagar — are taking a large share of the medals, and MIET is the consistent private-college presence.

Why a college league matters more here than it looks

For most students in the Jammu division, the inter-collegiate circuit is not a stepping stone to something else — it is the highest level of organised sport they will get access to, and it is free. It is also the layer that feeds the university team, which is what feeds inter-university nationals. A boxer from GDC Ramban has no district academy behind them; the college championship is the selection event.

That is worth knowing before results like these get read as trivia. The eight names in the boxing list above are, for this season, the best in their weight across twenty-five-odd colleges.

How you enter

These are inter-collegiate championships, which means entry runs through your college's physical education department, not through an individual application. If you want to compete next season, the person to find is your college's PE in-charge — the Directorate's calendar is published to colleges, and a place in a college squad is the only route onto it.
