Four Naval Wing NCC cadets from PSPS Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, represented the Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh NCC Directorate at the All India Nau Sainik Camp (AINSC) 2026 and helped the Directorate finish 8th overall nationally, according to a report in Daily Excelsior's July 21 print edition.
Per that report: LC Diksha Bhagat won silver in boat pulling; Cadet Arpita Sharma took the camp's Best Cadet award along with silver in drill and as camp captain, plus bronze in service subjects and health & hygiene; Cadet Maitri Nayak won silver in drill and the on-the-spot examination; and Cadet Ananya Chib won silver in both drill and boat pulling. The cadets trained under GCW Gandhi Nagar Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour and contingent trainer Dr Rachna Devi, under the overall command of Commander Tej Ram Sharma of 1 J&K Naval NCC Unit.
What the camp actually tests
AINSC is the NCC's national-level naval camp, this year held at INS Shivaji, Lonavala, and draws Naval Wing cadets from Directorates across the country to compete in drill, boat pulling, seamanship, firing and on-the-spot assessments — a mix that rewards both physical training and quick judgment rather than just fitness. It's a genuinely competitive, multi-Directorate event, not a participation exercise.
An 8th-place national finish would sit in line with the JK&L Directorate's recent history at this camp — it placed 3rd in 2017 and 7th in 2019 — suggesting a Directorate that competes credibly rather than trailing the field. For young women at a Jammu women's college, the Naval Wing remains one of the few structured, credentialed pathways into defence-adjacent training available locally, ahead of routes like the Navy or Merchant Navy.
