For every Jammu student who dreams of clearing the JKAS and joining the J&K Administrative Service, the hardest part is often knowing how to practise. This week the city's exam-prep ecosystem gave aspirants a fresh option: SR College of Competitions has launched a JKAS-2026 prelims test series, which kicked off on July 12, 2026.
What the test series offers
The programme is built around 23 tests in all — 17 sectional tests and 6 full-length papers, including CSAT — designed to mirror the actual exam format. According to the institute, each test comes with detailed explanatory notes, performance analysis to flag weak areas, and expert guidance aimed at building conceptual clarity, accuracy and time management. It is also offering free one-on-one mentorship for civil-services aspirants and a separate test series for the Finance Accounts Assistant (FAA) exam, which draws many of the same candidates.
The exam it prepares you for
JKAS is recruited through the JKPSC Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), which has three stages — Prelims, Mains and a Personal Interview. The CCE is the gateway not just to the J&K Administrative Service but also to the J&K Police (Gazetted) and J&K Accounts (Gazetted) services. To put the scale in perspective, the recent 2025 cycle carried 80 posts — 35 JKAS, 30 JKPS(G) and 15 Accounts(G) — with its mains examination held across late June into early July 2026. Prelims is only a screening test; the marks that actually decide your rank come in the mains and the interview, so a smart aspirant treats prelims practice as a foundation, not the finish line.
How to use a test series well
Simulate exam conditions. Sit full-length papers in one timed sitting — the CSAT paper especially rewards practised pacing.
Study the analysis, not just the score. A test series earns its value in the review: where you lost time, which sections dragged, what you keep getting wrong.
Pair it with the official syllabus. Keep jkpsc.nic.in open for the authentic pattern and the next prelims notification, and treat coaching material as practice, not gospel.
Build a J&K-specific base. The CCE rewards deep knowledge of the Union Territory's geography, economy and current affairs — strengths a local aspirant can genuinely own.
SR College is one of several institutes in Jammu chasing the same aspirants, so compare options, talk to past students and check what a course actually includes before you pay. But the bigger signal is encouraging: as another JKPSC cycle approaches, the city's prep infrastructure for its most ambitious students is getting deeper — and much of it is now within reach at home.
