Historic Security Upgrade for Healthcare
In a landmark development for national critical infrastructure, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Vijaypur in Jammu's Samba district is set to become the first healthcare institute in India guarded round-the-clock by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) cleared the proposal following multi-agency security assessments that evaluated the institute's strategic vulnerability and operational scale.
Proximity to the International Border
Spread across an expansive 226-acre campus along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway (NH-44), AIIMS Jammu is situated approximately 15 to 18 kilometres from the International Border. The region has historically witnessed cross-border security challenges, making a hardened, specialized perimeter essential for safeguarding both patients and high-value medical assets.
- 226-Acre Perimeter: The CISF contingent will manage campus perimeter security, multi-gate access control, and specialized quick-reaction team (QRT) surveillance.
- Relief for Local Law Enforcement: The armed paramilitary umbrella frees local Jammu & Kashmir Police personnel from static guard duty to focus on regional policing and traffic management.
- Anti-Sabotage Protocols: The deployment includes dedicated baggage scanning, anti-sabotage sweeps, and vehicle profiling at all primary entry gates.
Uninterrupted Healthcare for the Duggar Belt
Inaugurated to serve patients across Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, and neighbouring states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, AIIMS Jammu is rapidly expanding its superspeciality OPD and IPD wings. Hospital administrators emphasized that while CISF personnel will maintain rigorous external security, internal patient escorting and clinic navigation will remain compassionate, frictionless, and patient-first.
Formal deployment ceremonies and perimeter handover are slated to take effect in the coming weeks following the completion of on-campus CISF barracks.
