If you’ve shot something worth showing off from the past year, this is one of the more accessible platforms in the city to put it in front of a jury: the Press Club of Jammu’s 7th Ashok Sodhi Memorial Awards for Best Photography is deliberately open beyond the professional photojournalist community it is best known in, inviting “fresh talent and diverse perspectives” from citizen journalists, students and the general public.
Who was Ashok Sodhi, and why the award exists
Ashok Sodhi was a senior photographer with Daily Excelsior who was killed on 11 May 2008 while covering an armed encounter in Jammu and Kashmir. The Press Club of Jammu instituted the memorial award in his name in 2015 to honour that work and to keep encouraging professionalism in photography across the region — this year’s edition is the seventh.
The article announcing this year’s edition did not specify the award categories, cash prizes or the composition of the judging panel; anyone entering should confirm those details directly with the Press Club of Jammu office when submitting, alongside the exact entry-form requirements.
