The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has rolled out two fresh recruitment notifications — Advertisement No. 05 and No. 06 of 2026, both dated July 6 — that together open 645 posts. One set is in the Home (Prisons) Department; the other is in Public Works (R&B). Crucially for younger applicants, the entry bar for most of these posts starts at matriculation, so you do not need a degree to be in the running.

Notification 1: 288 Warder posts (Advt 05 of 2026)
The first notification advertises 288 UT Cadre Warder posts under the Home Department's Prisons wing.
Eligibility: Matriculation (Class 10 pass) from a recognised board.
Age: Maximum 40 years for Open Merit, with the usual relaxations for reserved categories (up to 43 years).
Selection: a Written Examination, followed by a Physical Standard Test (PST) and a Physical Endurance Test (PET). The PST and PET are qualifying in nature — you must clear them, but the written exam does the ranking.
Physical standards: minimum height of 5 feet 6 inches for men (chest 32–33.5 inches) and 5 feet 2 inches for women.
Application fee: around ₹700 for general candidates and ₹600 for SC/ST/EWS applicants.
Dates: the online window opens 27 July 2026 and closes 25 August 2026.
Because the fitness tests are only qualifying, the smart move is obvious: start light physical prep now so the PET is a formality, and put your real energy into the written paper, which is what actually decides the merit list. Note the 0.25 negative marking, so guesswork can cost you.
Notification 2: 357 PWD (R&B) posts (Advt 06 of 2026)
The second notification covers 357 posts in the Public Works (Roads & Buildings) Department, split across two roles and both divisions:
Draftsman (Civil): 48 posts in Division Jammu and 49 in Division Kashmir.
Works Supervisor: 194 posts in Division Jammu and 66 in Division Kashmir.
Eligibility differs by role. Draftsman (Civil) requires a two-year Draftsman training course certificate or diploma — good news for the many ITI and polytechnic students in and around Jammu who often struggle to find posts matched to their exact trade. Works Supervisor asks for matriculation plus a trade certificate in Building Construction or Carpentry. Selection here is through an OMR-based Written Examination.
The application window for these posts runs 1 August 2026 to 30 August 2026 — a few days behind the Warder timeline, so keep the two deadlines separate in your calendar.
Why this matters for Jammu's youth
Two things stand out. First, the entry qualification. A recurring frustration for young job seekers here is that so many ‘good’ vacancies quietly demand a graduate degree. These notifications keep the door at Class 10 for Warder and at trade-certificate level for the R&B roles, which genuinely widens who can apply. The practical takeaway: don't fixate on a single advertisement. Map every JKSSB notification you're eligible for, line up the deadlines, and apply for each one that fits rather than betting everything on one exam.
