The story so far

In September we covered the scheme that is meant to rebuild government ITIs around industry partners: PM-SETU in J&K: ₹482 Crore to Rebuild 10 Government ITIs. The money has now been tied to specific clusters.

What's new

On Friday, October 16, the sixth meeting of the PM-SETU National Steering Committee, chaired by Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, approved ₹475.41 crore for ITI clusters in Jammu and Srinagar, according to Greater Kashmir.

  • Jammu cluster: ₹240 crore. Industry partner: Eagle Infra India Limited. Government ITI Jammu is the hub; the spokes are the ITIs at R S Pura, Nowshera, Samba and Kathua.
  • Srinagar cluster: ₹235.41 crore. Industry partner: Inderdeep Infra India.

Five clusters were cleared in total across J&K, Maharashtra and Odisha, worth ₹1,194.92 crore. Cumulative sanctions under PM-SETU stand at ₹3,687 crore. Ms Mukherjee encouraged clusters to pursue ISO certification and include at least one WorldSkills-aligned trade, and said J&K's progress was "encouraging".

What it means for a student at a Jammu ITI

The stated aims are modernised infrastructure, industry-aligned courses, stronger trainers and more industry participation. The report does not say which trades will be offered at which ITI, how many seats there will be, or when work will start. Those are the details that decide what changes for someone enrolling at the Samba or Kathua ITI, and they have not been announced.

The scheme also trains the trainers: 3,744 trainers had been trained through National Skill Training Institutes as of October 2026.
