The story so far: JammuBeat's Two Unity Malls, ₹255 Crore explained the plan for a craft hub in Jammu and one in Srinagar. The project has now moved a step.
What's new
- Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo reviewed the PM Ekta Malls on October 21, 2026.
- The contract committee considered both projects on October 19.
- Letters of Award are expected by the third week of November 2026.
- Private partners for operation and maintenance will be chosen through competitive bidding under a Public-Private Partnership model.
The two sites
- Jammu: Rail Head Complex, 24 kanals, about 2.14 lakh sq ft, approved cost ₹125 crore. Planned: retail outlets, a craft museum, art gallery, exhibition spaces and a food court.
- Srinagar: Kashmir Haat Complex, Jehangir Chowk-Batmaloo Road, 15 kanals, about 1.81 lakh sq ft, ₹130 crore. Planned: shops, a craft museum, exhibition hall, auditorium, indoor amphitheatre, dining and guest accommodation.
The Industries and Commerce Department is executing both through the PWD. Commissioner Secretary Vikramjit Singh presented the details.
Why it matters to young Jammu
The malls are meant to showcase J&K handicrafts, handlooms and indigenous products and widen market access for local artisans and entrepreneurs. The Chief Secretary asked that One District One Product (ODOP) items and GI-tagged products get more visibility. For young makers and sellers, the useful date is the award stage: it will show who runs the Jammu mall. Construction timelines, shop allocation rules and rents were not mentioned in the report.
