The story so far

On 1 September the J&K Services Selection Board issued Advertisement Notification No. 09 of 2026 for 2,863 posts of Class-IV (Multi-Tasking Staff) and Sanitation Worker, 1,093 of them in the Jammu division. Our earlier explainer and several aggregator sites carried the window as 5 October to 3 November. That is no longer the date to work to.

What's new

A notice issued by the Board's Secretary on 9 October 2026 (No. JKSSB-PLAN/6/2025-03) sets the dates for submitting application forms and paying the fee online:

  • Opens: 14 October 2026, 12:00 AM
  • Closes: 12 November 2026, 11:59 PM
  • Fee deadline: the same window, 14 October to 12 November

The notice does not say why the dates differ from the ones that circulated earlier, and it does not list the exam date. Treat 12 November as the real deadline, and note that the 2,863 figure and the cadre split in the original advertisement have not been changed by this notice.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Apply online only, through the JKSSB website, jkssb.nic.in. No other mode is accepted.
  2. Click the "Log-in (Apply on Various Posts)" tab and register as a new user with a valid e-mail ID and mobile number. Both are verified by OTP; use the username generated at registration rather than your e-mail to log in.
  3. Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) form, then open the "Active Advertisement" tab and click "Apply".
  4. Give your preferences for Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker separately. The notice says cadre and department preferences, once submitted, cannot be edited, even if an edit option appears later.
  5. Upload your signature (10 to 20 KB, about 1.5 x 3.5 cm) and complete a live face capture.
  6. Pay the fee through the "Pay Now" link by net banking, debit card, UPI or credit card, then check that your dashboard shows the fee status as "Submitted". An application without a paid fee is treated as incomplete.

Don't get caught out

  • No uploaded photos. The notice's Annexure A says live face capture through a device camera is mandatory and that uploaded photographs or screenshots are not allowed. Use a webcam or phone camera in good light, in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
  • A submitted form cannot be edited. Category claims are accepted only if you fill them in and hold a valid certificate within the cut-off date.
  • Do not wait for the last evening. The Board itself warns that heavy load near the closing date can cause login failures.
  • No paper form now. Hard copies are needed only from shortlisted candidates at the document-verification stage, after the exam. In-service candidates must submit a printout with the signed certificate through proper channel.

Eligibility is unchanged from the advertisement: a valid J&K domicile certificate is required. Our earlier piece sets out the education ceiling and the cadre split. Questions about the form can go to ssbjk-grievance@jk.gov.in or the Board's Jammu helpdesk, 0191-2461335.
