The story so far

JKSET is the qualifying examination for Assistant Professor posts across every college and university in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh — and clearing it also makes you eligible for PhD admission. Applications for the 2026 cycle opened on 24 July under Notification No. KU/JKSET-LASET/01/2026, with the University of Kashmir acting as nodal agency this year rather than the University of Jammu.

When we wrote about it earlier this month, the deadline was 20 August. If you read that and assumed you had missed it, read on.

What's changed

The JKSET Agency has issued an extension notification, posted on its notices page on 21 August, moving both windows back by five days:

  • Without late fee: 20 August → 25 August 2026

  • With late fee: 25 August → 30 August 2026

The reason given is administrative rather than anything to do with candidates: audit and security work on the website delayed the start of the online application process by five days, and the agency has returned those five days at the other end.

The fees

  • General / UR: ₹1,200 (₹1,800 with late fee)

  • RBA / ALC-IB / OBC / EWS: ₹900 (₹1,500 with late fee)

  • SC / ST / Transgender / PwD 40% and above: ₹700 (₹1,300 with late fee)

Payment is through the online gateway on the application portal only. Demand drafts, money orders, postal orders, cheques and cash are explicitly not accepted, and the fee is neither refundable nor adjustable against a future cycle.

The dates after this one

  • Admit cards: 8 October 2026

  • Examination: Sunday, 25 October 2026

  • Centres: Jammu, Srinagar and Ladakh, across 41 subjects

The answer key display and challenge schedule has not been announced; the agency has said it will go up on the University of Kashmir website later.

What to do now

Apply through the JKSET portal linked from the University of Kashmir site. If you are inside the free window, 25 August is a Tuesday — do not leave it to the last evening, because a portal that has already had audit and security work done on it under time pressure is not one to gamble a ₹600 late fee on.

One practical note: because the extension was issued as a scanned notification, confirm the dates on the portal itself before you pay. Deadlines on this exam have moved twice already.
