Katra is where most Jammu weekend trips to the Trikuta hills begin, and where thousands of young people work in hospitality, transport and guiding. On 3 October, Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna held a review meeting there on water conservation and environmental sustainability, Greater Kashmir reports, citing PTI.

What the Shrine Board presented

  • Rooftop rainwater harvesting
  • Facilitation of groundwater recharge
  • Liquid sewage treatment
  • Afforestation programmes

Additional Chief Executive Officer Alok K. Maurya briefed the minister. The minister, the report says, stressed "the importance of sustainable water management and environmental conservation, particularly in areas that receive a large number of pilgrims throughout the year."

What the report does not say

No figures were given: not the volume of water harvested, the capacity of the treatment plants or the number of trees planted, and no new targets or deadlines were announced. We have not filled those gaps. For visitors, the practical takeaway is modest: the Navratra season (11-19 October) brings heavy footfall, so see our weekend checklist.
