₹30.35 crore, three facilities, one campus. On Wednesday 7 October 2026, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated a sports package at the Sher-i-Kashmir Multi Sports Activity Centre, Gindun Rajbagh, Srinagar.
The numbers
- Main pool, ₹19.96 crore: 50 m by 25 m, ten competition lanes, diving platforms at 1, 3 and 5 metres, seating for 300.
- Training and toddler pool, ₹5.35 crore: heated, with an indoor lap pool, a toddler pool and anti-skid decking, designed for year-round use.
- Gymnastics hall, ₹5.04 crore: 36 m by 21 m and 10 m high, with modern gymnastics equipment.
What the CM said
He said there is "an Olympic-sized swimming pool in Kashmir for the first time" and that the heating lets children "practice and train here for 12 months a year". On gymnastics he remarked: "Generally, when we talk about gymnastics in Jammu and Kashmir, we only talk about Jammu." He also watched swimming and gymnastics demonstrations by trainees.
Why Jammu's athletes should notice
The facility is in Srinagar, but the pool is a national-standard size and the sport it serves is one Jammu already trains in. JammuBeat has reported on Jammu's own 50-metre pool. The reports do not say how the new venue will be booked, what fees apply, whether it will host state selection events, or how athletes from Jammu division could use it. Those details have not been announced.
