"Equal attention must be given to the emotional challenges and pressures students experience during their academic journey." That was the message from Dr Ginny Dogra, Director of the University of Jammu's Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) and Officiating Director of the Mental Health and Counselling Unit, at the launch of the 'Your Mind Matters' awareness series.

What happened

The first session was held in the Convention Hall of The Business School for students of The Business School, the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the International Centre for Cross-Cultural Research and Human Resource Management. Counsellor Shweta Jain led an interactive session on mental health, emotional well-being, stress management and balancing academics with personal life. She urged students to address difficulties rather than ignore them.

Where do students go for help?

Counselling is offered through the Mental Health and Counselling Unit at the University Health Centre. The report does not give the session's date, unit timings, a phone number or a booking process, so check with the Health Centre before you go.

The stated aims of the series are to make counselling more accessible, encourage students to seek help early and create a safe space to talk. If exam season or a placement hunt is wearing you down, a campus unit is the cheapest place to start. The photo is a file photo of Jammu.
