Aspirants from Ramban district have asked the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and the district administration to set up examination centres in Ramban. Greater Kashmir reported their demand on 12 October from Banihal.

What the candidates say

The aspirants say candidates are being allotted centres in Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Srinagar, Budgam and other districts. They point to extra spending on transport, accommodation and food, and say candidates from remote areas may need to travel a day before the exam. The exams named are Finance Accounts Assistant, Sub-Inspector, Police Constable and other posts, which they expect in November-December 2026. They say local centres "would reduce unnecessary expenditure" and add: "Our demand is for accessible examination facilities, not any relaxation in recruitment standards." They have asked the Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, to raise the matter with the authorities before the tests.

What JKSSB says

The report carries no response from JKSSB, the Deputy Commissioner or any other official, and gives no cost figures. We have not found the board's current exam schedule or centre list, so we cannot say whether Ramban will have centres this time.

What the record shows

The concern is not new. In June 2024, aspirants for the JKSSB Supervisor (ICDS) exam in the Social Welfare Department complained about the absence of examination centres in Ramban and Jammu and urged the board to allot centres within candidates' native districts, according to a Kashmir Life report of 19 June 2024.

What a candidate can do now

  • Check the admit card for your centre as soon as it is issued, and plan travel and a stay early if it is far.
  • Look at the exam notice for the date and the centre-selection details.
  • Raise it formally: the aspirants' route is a representation through the Deputy Commissioner.
