  • Pattern: subjects with almost no takers are being discontinued

The courses with empty classrooms

  • GDC Akhnoor, Business Studies: 30 admissions in 2023, 21 in 2024, none in 2025.
  • GDC Bishnah: Mathematics, 11 admissions in 2023 and none after, all 40 seats vacant; Physics, all 30 seats vacant.
  • GDC Doda, Arabic: 14, then 4, then 2 admissions; 78 of 80 seats vacant.
  • GDC Baderwah, Computer Applications: 5, 6, then 0 against 40 seats; the subject is discontinued.
  • Also discontinued: Business Regulation at the University of Jammu's Baderwah campus, Urdu at GDC Kastigarh, and Accounting and Taxation at GDC Bijbehara.

What is meant to replace them

A government committee has recommended rationalising subjects, a programme-wise enrolment review, a cluster-based academic model for rural colleges and one-year postgraduate programmes for four-year (FYUGP) graduates. It wants AI, Data Science, Cyber Security and Remote Sensing in select colleges near Jammu and Srinagar.

If you are applying next year

Check the college's current subject list before you fill the form, not last year's prospectus. The report does not say what happens to students already enrolled in a discontinued subject; ask the college directly. For the wider enrolment picture, see our report on 145 colleges and 30,000 graduates a year.
