What's new
On October 13 an official spokesman said 4,715 scholarships have been allotted for 2026-27 against a target of 5,000, which is 94.3%. By course type:
- General degree courses: 1,894 allotted against 2,070
- Professional courses: 2,741 against 2,830
- Medical and BDS courses: 80 against 100
For comparison, the beneficiaries in earlier sessions were 3,627 (2023-24), 3,674 (2024-25) and 3,585 (2025-26). This year's allotment is 1,130 higher than 2025-26, and the spokesman said it is significantly higher than the full-year figures of the previous three sessions.
How it is run
The J&K Higher Education Department coordinates registration and counselling through facilitation and document-verification centres. A UT-level review committee, headed by the Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, with the Director Colleges as member secretary, handles verification and review.
What is not said
The report does not say whether the remaining 285 slots will be filled or when the session closes, nor does it give eligibility criteria beyond residence in J&K or Ladakh. Check current dates and conditions with your district facilitation centre or the official PMSSS portal.
