J&K students selected for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme, along with existing awardees seeking renewal, now have a firm next step: submit the 2026-27 application on the National Scholarship Portal by August 31, 2026. The scholarship is worth ₹12,000 a year and supports eligible students from Class IX through Class XII.

What's new
The Ministry of Education has now set three dates for the 2026-27 cycle:
August 31: last date for students to submit fresh or renewal applications on NSP.
September 15: last date for Level-1 verification by the student's school or institute nodal officer.
September 30: last date for Level-2 verification by the district nodal officer.
The portal does not state a closing time, so do not assume the form will remain available until midnight.
Who should act now?
This application window is for students who have already been selected for a fresh NMMSS award and for existing awardees renewing the scholarship in Classes X, XI or XII. The scheme covers students in state government, government-aided and local-body schools. The Ministry's standing eligibility rules include annual parental income of no more than ₹3.5 lakh; candidates needed at least 55% in Class VII to sit the selection test, with a five-percentage-point relaxation for SC and ST students.
Finish the application, then follow the verification
Open the National Scholarship Portal and complete One-Time Registration if it is not already done.
Log in with the OTR ID and password, choose the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme, and complete the fresh or renewal form.
Submit before August 31 and retain the application details.
Tell the school nodal officer that the application is ready for Level-1 verification; submission alone does not finish the verification chain.
Track the application on NSP through the September 15 and September 30 checkpoints.
From 2026-27, NSP also allows a student to apply for one merit-based scholarship and one or more welfare-based scholarships at the same time, provided the student meets each scheme's rules.
