The National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Championships opened in Jammu on 28 September and run until 6 October 2026. Daily Excelsior’s opening report puts participation at 286 players from 30 states and Union Territories, including 38 from J&K.

The official AICF prospectus identifies the venue as Kangra Fort Banquet Hall, Bantalab Road, Barnai, Jammu. This is an update on a tournament now under way, not a new invitation to enter.

What the competition involves

The prospectus provides for 11 Swiss-system rounds under FIDE’s laws. Each player starts with 90 minutes, with 30 seconds added per move. Its prize table allocates ₹90,000 to the champion in each section; the overall prize fund is ₹9 lakh.

Round four is scheduled for 9:30 AM on 30 September. The final round is listed for 9:30 AM on 6 October, followed by prize distribution at 2:30 PM. These are the published programme times, not live results.

Before planning a visit

Public spectator access has not been verified. Confirm arrangements with the organiser rather than assuming the event is open for walk-in viewing or registration. This report makes no unverified promise of international-tour sponsorship for the winners.
