Three projects that matter to commuters, students and farmers in Kathua and Udhampur were discussed at a public darbar at Sukrala, Billawar, on Sunday, October 11, attended by MLA Satish Sharma and Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, as reported by The Tribune. This piece sticks to the projects and what was actually stated. (File photo of Jammu city.)
The Ujh Multipurpose Project
Described as long pending, the project is to begin "soon in a phased manner". The minister said it is "expected to be an important intervention in addressing the region's water and development requirements." No start date, cost or phase list was given.
Dhar Road four-laning
The report says four-laning of the Dhar Road was initiated after nearly six decades, with repairs begun on the Udhampur side and extending towards Billawar. That is a statement about what has started; the report gives no completion date.
The Billawar-Bani road
About 5 km of the Billawar-Bani road remains stalled pending forest clearances. The report does not say when those clearances are expected.
Drinking water and a temple
A revised drinking-water framework has replaced the earlier Jal Jeevan Mission plan, and works of nearly Rs 1 crore at Mata Sukrala Temple are being funded through MPLADS and the MLA's Constituency Development Fund. Details of the revised framework were not given.
What it means for you
If you commute or study across the Kathua-Udhampur belt, the practical news is limited: some repair work has started on one road, and the rest are intentions without dates. We will report when official orders, tenders or clearances appear.
