Two bridges, each 181.60 metres long, are part of the T01 Dhalote via Talour road in Sumb block of Samba district. They are being built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the central scheme for all-weather rural roads.

The numbers

  • BR-1: sanctioned at ₹23.66 crore, between RD 0/200 and RD 0/300
  • BR-2: sanctioned at ₹24.29 crore, between RD 3/010 and RD 3/180

Together that is ₹47.95 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary inspected both on Sunday, according to The Tribune. He directed officials to identify the reasons for the delay, speed up work without compromising quality, carry out a quality assessment, fix accountability for the delay and ensure the approved designs and engineering standards are followed. In his words, "critical infrastructure works must be completed within stipulated timelines without compromising on quality."

What is not known

The report does not give a completion date or the cause of the delay; that is exactly what the inspection asked officials to establish. Why this matters: a long-span bridge is often the single link that keeps village roads open in monsoon, which decides whether students and workers can reach Samba and Jammu on time. Earlier PMGSY coverage: 110 New Roads, 598 km.
