If you have a train booked out of Jammu over the next week — heading home for the break, off to a coaching centre, or just travelling for work — double-check your schedule before you leave for the station. Development work at Mukerian station on the Jammu Division route is disrupting train operations from 23 June to 1 July 2026, and a number of services are affected.

What's changing

According to the railway notification, the impact comes in two forms — cancelled halts and rerouting:

  • Cancelled stops at Mukerian: roughly 23 trains will skip their scheduled halt at Mukerian during this period. If Mukerian was your boarding or alighting point, you will need to plan an alternative.
  • Rerouted services: trains 19224 and 19223 will be diverted via the Gurdaspur–Amritsar–Beas route from 25 June to 1 July, bypassing Mukerian and Pathankot Cantt stations altogether.

Because several of these are services that run to and from Jammu, the knock-on effects — revised timings, skipped stops, longer routes — can catch you out even if your origin or destination is not Mukerian itself.

Before you travel

The railways' own advice is the simplest: obtain correct information about your specific train and route before starting your journey. In practice, that means:

  • Check your train's live status and revised timing on the official IRCTC app or the NTES portal on the day of travel.
  • If your halt is among the cancelled ones, identify the nearest functioning station and adjust your plans early.
  • Build in a buffer — rerouted trains via Amritsar–Beas run longer than the usual path.

It is a short, fixed disruption tied to infrastructure work, not a permanent change, and normal operations are expected to resume after 1 July. But for one week, a two-minute status check before you head out can save you a missed train or a long wait on the wrong platform.
